Dogara Speaker approves use of e-voting system for Reps



The House of Representatives
Speaker, Yakubu Dogara has
announced the adoption of an
electronic voting system in the
Green chambers.
Dogara said the new technology will enable
lawmakers carry out the voting process in the
House, transparently, adding that it will also
monitor voting patterns and punctuality among
the Reps.
The Speaker said the adoption of the
electronic voting system, was in line with the
House’s resolve to embrace Information
Technology (IT).
Dogara said the agenda of the 8th Assembly
states that “The 8th House commits to the use
of ICT (Information and communications
technology) in the daily conduct of legislative
activities of the House. E-parliament and e-
voting platforms will be made a regular
feature of the House.”
“E-voting will be used regularly during voting
to properly reflect voting records of Members
and parliamentary accountability. The House
shall collaborate with relevant stakeholders to
achieve the goal of an e-parliament,”
He also said House members have been given
forms to fill their details, so their e-voting
card can be produced.
Yakubu Dogara announced that laws that will
ensure that the rights of Internally
Displaced Persons (IDPs) » are protected,
will soon be enacted.
