The embattled chairman on Appropriation, Jibril Abdulmumini refused to
show up at the hearing organised by the House of Representatives
committee on Ethics and Privileges mandated by the general House to look
into frivolous allegations made against the Speaker and three other
principal officers.
The matter was brought to the House by Emmanuel Oker-Jev on Wednesday,
21 September 2016. He accused Jibril of selling out false information,
misleading and instigating the public against the National Assembly
(NASS).
Whilst responding to questions today at the hearing, we demanded to
know whether Oker-Jev took the action because he is the chairman Rules
and Business. He said he's concerned as a member and that some Nigerians
called to express their disappointment over the matter.
"I got calls from my colleagues including the transparency group, Nigerians telling me they are ashamed of what is going on".
He also stressed that the National Assembly has an internal mechanism
for entertaining such issues, so there was no reason for Jibril to
engage the NASS through media if at all he had any grievances.
He further dismissed the allegation of budget padding, that nothing like that existed.
The chairman, Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Nicholas Ossai in his remarks reiterated his earlier stand
on been unbiased and ensuring that every party involved gets justice. He
therefore asked the complainant, Oker-jev to submit a written report of
all he has said to the committee by Monday 26 September, 2016.
The committee is expected to present its report in a week time on the
floor of the House for further deliberation and resolution.
