The House of Representatives have urged the Federal Civil Service
Commission (FCSC) to make public available job vacancies and distribute
same to States in accordance with the Federal Character Principles.
The house further urged FCSC to ensure for a 24-hour accessibility of
the recruitment portal for intending applicants and extend the deadline
for the submission of applicants.
The house also resolved to set-up an Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the
unwholesome practice by the commission and report back in one week for
further input.
The matter was brought to the house by Henry Okon Archibong, Akwa
Ibom, Solomon Bulus, Plateau and Mustapha Balla from Kano all
co-sponsored the motion under matter of urgent public importance.
Concerned that the recruitment exercise by the FCSC had officially
commenced with the opening of the Federal Civil Service recruitment
portal.
Also worried that thousands of qualified Nigerians have over the past
days have been trying to apply for various positions advertised via www.vacancy.fedservice.gov.ng but to no avail.
The lawmakers are also worried that by the uploading of a non functional
recruitment portal, the commission is deliberately denying thousands of
suitable qualified Nigerians of contributing their quota.
Aware that most of these prospective applicants are dependent and do not
have access to internet facilities and are at the mercy of cyber cafe
operators, while those who do, go on to exploit these applicants before
commencement.
The house is further disturbed over the action of the commission is
against the change agenda of Mr. President, principle of equity,
justice, fairness, transparency and accountability.
The motion was adopted and sent to the community on Federal Character Commission.
