The House of Representatives committee on Diaspora recently stormed
Owerri, Imo state Capital in support of a diasporan who decided to
come back home to show love to his community.
The committee under the leadership of Rep. Rita Oji (PDP) Representing
Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos state as part of its
agenda vowed to woo successful Nigerians living abroad to come back home
and be of help to their fellow Nigerians especially with the hardship
the people are currently undergoing due to the economic recession in the
Country.
The Committee members were in Owerri to witness the distribution of
the various items provided by "Albertiqs Extra Helping Hands"
Foundation, a non governmental organization founded by Mr. Gedeon to the
people of his community during the yuletide celebration.
Some of the items donated by the organization ranged from foods, money,
and other essential needs were freely given to put smiles on the faces
of the people of the Community.
Speaking at the occasion. Hon Oji ,expressed delight in the kind
gesture the foundation showed to the people of the Community and the society
at large,saying such would go a long way to ameliorate their
predicament in this era of economic recession in the Country.
According to her,"We ask Nigerians abroad to come back home so that the
people will benefit in their successes. It is also a well known fact
that the foundation has our backing,we are very happy with the
foundation's activities".
Also speaking in the same vain, Rep. Henry Archibong (PDP) Akwa Ibom a
member of the committee lauded the founder of Albertiqs Extra Helping
Hands for returning home to share his achievements with his people.
Said he,"the committee has always advocate for this show of love because
it is the only way our society can develop and life will improve for
the common man".
Another member of the Committee, Hon Henry Nwawuba representing
Mbaitolu/Ikeduru (PDP) stated that he was very delighted to be part of
the good will displayed by Mr. Gedeon Albert who happened to be his
constituent.
Hon Nwabuba then enjoined other members of his constituents in abroad to come home and be of help to their communities.
He pointed out he was not in any way felt threatened politically by
the gesture of the organizer but rather he was in full support of the
rare kind gesture and urged other spirited son and daughter of the area
to emulate him.
According to the lawmaker, "there is actually no threat and I give him
my full backing. We pray that people will come back and do this kind of
thing".
