SENATE PRESIDENT BUKOLA SARAKI HAS SAID THAT IF NIGERIA MUST
WIN THE BATTLE AGAINST INSURGENTS IN THE NORTHEAST, THE COUNTRY MUST WIN THE
HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE
SARAKI SAID THE ONLY WAY TO
TRULY WIN THE HERATS OF THE PEOPLE WOULD BE TO ESTABLISH A COMMISSION THAT
WOULD HELP REBUILD THE REGION.
THE SENATE PRESIDENT SPOKE AT
THE OPENING OF A TWO-DAY PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BILL ON MONDAY
Lawmakers from both chambers would spend the
next two days fine-tuning the modalities for a bill seeking to establish a Northeast
Development Commission!
In the House
of Representatives, where the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari brought in
her own submission, ,lawmakers laid similar emphasis on
the benefits of the bill.
Nigeria
experienced untold horror in a reign of terror by BOKO HARAM!
For 7 years,
Islamic fighters occupied Nigeria’s northeast; from where it launched deadly
attacks; to other parts in the North; making occasional incursions into capital
Abuja!
But in the
Northeast lies the relics of BOKO HARAM’s deepest bloody scars!
Tens of
thousands killed; many more maimed kidnapped or forced to flee!
Schools shattered;
hospitals destroyed with major means of livelihood left in ruins.
With a new
spirited military onslaught, insurgents seem now on the back foot; giving
Nigeria a respite to open talks on how to rebuild the catastrophe left behind
by BOKO HARAM!
But rebuilding
could take some time!
SARAKI
believes Nigeria can’t afford to delay any further on having the bill ready for
third reading on or before 25th
of May.
