The Member Representing Okpe in the State House of Assembly, Hon Sheriff
Oboriowori says, despite the obvious challenges, he was able to attract
meaningful development to the constituency in his one year as a member
of the state legislature.
Briefing his constituents at a town hall meeting on the journey so far,
Hon Oboriowori paid glowing tributes to governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his
team for the effective collaboration with him and other stakeholders in
Okpe that made possible the positive changes witnessed in the council
area in recent times.
Correspondent, Nkechukwuyem Nwanyaha reports that the State Chairman of
PDP, Chief Kingsley Esiso, the Chairman of the party in the area, Chief
Efe Uko, the Chairman Okpe local government council, Prince Godwin
Ejiyere and other party leaders, including the immediate past Delta
Central Senatorial Chairman of PDP, Chief Tom Amioku, in their
submissions, stressed the need for the people to keep faith with the PDP
for greater dividends of democracy to the locality.
Hon Sheriff Oboriowori who is the Chairman, House Committee on Capital
City Development Agency and Vice Chairman, House Committee on Peace and
Security as well as a member of several committees of the house, said
the briefing was to account for his stewardship from June 2015 till
date.
The lawmaker told the constituents that in the first year of the Sixth
Delta State House of Assembly, twenty one bills were attended to and
several motions passed by the house, noting that he was never found
wanting at ensuring that the voice of Okpe people were hard during
debates and contributions on any issue raised both at plenary and at the
caucus of the house.
Hon Oboriowori stated that in his commitment to providing quality
representation to the constituency, he keyed into all the state
government programs geared towards sustainable development, wealth
creation and empowerment by ensuring that the people of Okpe benefited
maximally in all the programs.
He said in synergy with other key stakeholders, including the Orodje of
Okpe, many indigenes were appointed into different political offices and
several projects attracted to the locality, of which some have been
commissioned, while others are at various stages of completion.
Hon Oboriowori who was full of appreciation to governor Ifeanyi Okowa
for his support and encouragement, assured the people of Okpe of greater
days ahead, disclosing that aside projects executions, he is
co-sponsoring five bills that would further promote peace and good
governance in the state to be introduced as soon as the house reconvene
after the annual recess.
He said more roads would be constructed and rehabilitated across the
council area as well as sustenance of allowances and monthly stipends to
many constituents, assuring that his efforts at providing assistance to
the people would be further improved upon and appealed for the support
of all.
The State Chairman of PDP, Chief Kingsley Esiso commended Hon Sheriff
Oboriowori for his quality representation of the people of Okpe and for
being a strong voice in the state legislature and charged the
constituents to continue to support him.
Chief Esiso said Nigerians are suffering under APC as the party has
failed in its promises, noting that the option left is to vote the party
out in 2019, even as he commended the achievements of governor Okowa in
the state in the face of the hard economic recession.
The Chairman of PDP in Okpe, Chief Efe Uko, the chairman of the local
government council, Prince Godwin Ejiyere and the immediate past
Chairman, PDP, Delta Central, Chief Tom Amioku, stressed the need for
sustained collaboration among stakeholders in Okpe for greater growth
and development in the council area.
They commended Hon Sheriff Oboriowori for the briefing to keep the
constituents abreast with the governance of the state as the
representative of the people, assuring that Okpe local government would
remain a strong hold of PDP as the opposition party has nothing to
offer.
Others who spoke including a former state officer of the party, Mr
Ramsey Kweki, a one time Chairman of Okpe local government, Chief Lizzy
Obukene, two elders of the party in the area, Chief Daniel Okoro and
Chief J. I. Asini among others, described the briefing as the beginning
of a new dawn in Okpe and charged Hon Oboriowori to remain committed in
attracting development to the people.
They said PDP has done well for the people and in return will ensure
that the party remains intact in Okpe, even as they decried the state of
Nigeria economy, berating the APC for hardship and appealed to the
lawmaker to lead them out of hunger.
The briefing was attended by some government functionaries, political
and opinion leaders as well as representatives of the all the ten wards
in Okpe local government area.
