Members of the House of Representatives have raised concern over the protracted crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the leadership tussle by Amaju Pinnick and Christopher Giwa who are both claiming the chairmanship position of the football regulatory body in the country. Voting on a motion of matter of urgent public importance, the House on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 mandated its Committee on Sports to invite all the stakeholders to reach a harmonious position with a view to resolving the crisis.

The Lawmakers described football as a unifying game that brings Nigerians together, adding that it has boosted the image of the nation in international sphere. They hinted that the current leadership crisis has already hampered smooth functioning of the football game, being attributed to be responsible to Nigeria’s failure to qualify consecutively for the African Nation’s Cup.

During the plenary session, the House passed a Bill seeking to introduce Peace Studies as part of the Basic National Curricular in both Junior and Secondary Schools in Nigeria; also to provide compulsory, free meal a day for children of Ages 6 – 8 and classes 1 – 2 in Universal Basic Education Schools. One of the Sponsors of the Bill, Hon. Goni Bukar Lawan led the debate on general principles of the Bill.

In another development, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has conveyed the congratulatory message of the House to the former Clerk of the House, Mr. Sani Omolori on his recent appointment by the National Assembly Service Commission, as the new Clerk to the National Assembly.
