The House of Representatives has ordered the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to immediately reverse its decision on increase of access gate charge slated to be enforced from the 1st day of October 2016.

The House also mandated the Committee on Aviation to engage the management of FAAN for possible explanation on the increment vis a vis the current challenges in Nigeria.

The matter which came under matters of urgent public importance was brought by Rotimi Agunsoye (APC) Lagos, he said the purported increment is coming at a time when the vast majority of Nigerians are wallowing under the painful bite of economic recession.

He also expressed worry that motorists are now forced to pay a one hundred percent increment with cars now to pay N400, buses, SUVs and Jeeps N600, while trucks are to pay N1000. The House also observered that reasons given by FAAN is not in any way convincing or either have the management communicated well enough to the public.

Recall that the access gate charge on motorist by FAAN has up to date been a fee of N200 for cars, N300 for buses, SUVs and jeeps, while other heavy duty vehicles including trucks are charged N500 per entry.

The House further viewed the decision by FAAN as insensitive to the prevalent plight of the average Nigerian but one that lacks merit and able to push citizen beyond limits.

the House said it is determined to intervene and ensure that policies and resolutions that negatively affect citizens and residents of this country are modified or altered to assuage the sufferings of the common populace.
