The lawmakers in the lower legislative chamber of the National Assembly are considering an amendment of the law of arms carrying. The suggestion was made on the floor of the House when a lawmaker from Kaduna State brought a motion in respect of the killings in his constituency perpetrated by herdsmen.

Rep. Zachari Mohammed made the assertion while contributing to the matter. He said the killing of innocent citizens in almost every part of the country has continued unabated.

Zachari said if the government does not act fast to stop the menace it might snowball into a mini war because people will be forced to protect themselves.

According to him, "may be we would have to resolve to self help and we have to look at the law of arms carrying".

The mover of the motion, Rep. Simon Arabo also shared the same views as his colleague.

Rep. Arabo said the issue has been a reoccurring decimal and no community will  fold its arms and watch his kinsmen been slaughtered always.

"We don't know why crises of herdsmen killings has been on the increase when government has a responsibility to protect it citizens", Arabo lamented.

Speaking further, he said some time early September he co-moved a similar motion of Funlani herdsmen killing in Southern Kaduna and in less than two months 43 people in his immediate ward have were murdered unhindered.

While talking to press men on the possible cause of the recent crises, he said a member of his constituent told him that the recent attack could be connected to a Fulani man who has been living in their community for long and wanted to take over the farmland of a community member for grazing of his animals and he was denied the land then he became violent.

However, some members suggested that a meeting should be scheduled between them and Mr. President in order to find a lasting solution.

Nigerians await to see the out come of the meeting with President Mohamadu Buhari.
