The House of Representatives has commenced a proper investigation into
alleged debts and criminal act of sabotage of downstream sector by oil
marketers.
The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara made the call while inaugurating the House adhoc committee to carry out the investigation.
Represented by the Chief Whip of the House, Alhassan Doguwa, Dogara
charged the committee to examine the existing laws and practices in the
country’s downstream oil sector with a view to covering all the
loopholes.
"We expect that in no distant time the committee will be inviting some
companies and individuals to provide answers to questions as to what
happened to the downstream sector".
"We hope that this committee will conduct its affairs in a serious and
corrupt free manner as the House will not tolerate any evidence of undue
influence or improper conduct," Dogara said.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Rep. Abdullahi
Gaya said that the investigation is necessary and timely in order to
curb the excesses of oil marketers who refuse to operate by laid down
procedures.
Gaya also emphasized that the probe will help government to recover funds owed by oil marketers and those they connivednwith.
"Today we read our marshal act and we will rise to execute the Act in
order to ensure that those who defaulted in the rules of engagement in
the downstream oil market are brought to book, " Gaya stated.
