One Year Anniversary; Delta State Lawmakers Reactions..........


The first session of the sixth Delta State House of Assembly has ended with a promise by members to step up efforts at making quality laws that would promote greater development and good governance in the state.

A cross section of the lawmakers while reviewing the first year of the sixth Assembly and prospecting for the coming session of the house, unanimously agreed that much work was needed to sustain the rhythm of socio-economic development being championed by the Okowa's led administration.

The legislators who spoke in separate interviews with reporters, acknowledged the economic recession in the country and stressed the need for greater understanding of their constituents.

Speaking on their experiences, expectations and challenges as legislators, the lawmakers shared their experiences bearing in mind the expectation of their constituents one year after the House was inaugurated. 

Those who spoke include the Chief Whip of the House, Hon Pat Ajudua, the minority whip, Hon Peter Uviejitobor, Alphonsus Ojo, Ukwuani. Samuel Mariere, Ughelli North One, Evans Ivwhurie, Ethiope East, Sheriff Oboriowori, Okpe, Angela Nwaka, Aniocha North and Daniel Yingi, Burutu One Constituency.                          

Hon Pat Ajudua who represents  Oshimili North constituency, Peter Uviejitobor, Udu and Samurai Mariere, Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources said they are happy having fought many electoral battles and commended their constituents for their film support.

Hon Ajudua, Uviejitobor and Mariere promised to continue to provide quality representation to their people and appealed for the understanding of all stakeholders, maintaining that the up coming legislative session would be better.

Hon Alphonsus Ojo, Chairman, House Committee on Transportation,  Evans Ivwhurie, Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Angela Nwaka, Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Daniel Yingi, Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas said despite the harsh economic times they have every reason to thank God.

Stressing that the expectation of their constituents have not been met which they attributed to the present economic realities, the lawmakers said they had been able to provide people oriented representation urging their people to be patient as they will continue to represent them effectively.     

Hon Ojo, Ivwhurie, Nwaka and Yingi noted that despite the fact that the last one year had been very tasking  due to the paucity of funds to meet the expectation of the people, with the pragmatic leadership of governor Ifeanyi Okowa they were able to attracted development projects to their areas.

The lawmakers said they were happy that the Okowa administration was able to embark on some meaningful projects across the state,  maintaining that the house will continue to carry out it collaborative functions in moving the state forward.

They said though funds had really hampered the execution of some projects in parts of the state, noting that Deltans were appreciative of the efforts of Governor Okowa in embarking and commissioning of some road projects while other projects  were ongoing.
